Toasts

Short messages that appear after something you did, without taking focus. Surveyed from DICOM Viewer (see docs/SCOPE.md, Phase 18). The rules are the point: errors and anything with an action stay until you dismiss them, the others fade after 10 seconds and wait while you point at them or tab into them, Escape dismisses the focused one, and the messages are announced by live regions that exist from page load.

Try them

Without JavaScript the same messages arrive as the flash banners at the top of the page, which is also the right place for anything a person must act on.

Rules

  • Errors and toasts with an action never time out.
  • Others fade after 10 seconds, paused while hovered or focused.
  • Escape or the Dismiss button closes one; focus returns to the button you used.
  • At most three at once.
  • No slide or fade with reduced motion.

About this page

Toasts

Press a button to show a toast. Errors and toasts with an action stay until you dismiss them; the rest fade after 10 seconds and wait while you point at them. Escape closes the focused one.

Without a mouse

Every control on this site works from the keyboard, including this panel (Escape closes it). Anything you can drag also has a menu or form that does the same thing.
